Program Components

(Beginning with new participants in January 2007)


ACADEMIC AREAS

1) Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities

Topics include:

  • Instructional Practices and Learning Environments
  • Principles and Practices of Multicultural Education
  • Guiding Student Behavior (on-line course)
  • Educational Software and Technology

These topics will include on-campus meetings, on-line discussions, and an on-line courses. You will be required to take and pass the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) exam for PPR.

2) Content Area

  • Content area course—depends upon certification area

You will be required to take and pass the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) exam for PPR.

3) Field-Based Experience (Select one)

  • Internship: two semesters, lasts approximately 36 weeks (You are an employee of a school district as teacher of record.)

OR

  • Clinical teaching: one semester, lasts approximately 12 weeks

TRADE AND INDUSTRIAL OR

HEALTH SCIENCE EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY

(You will not have to come to our campus.)

Trade and Industrial Participants -

You will be required to take and pass the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) TIE exam. (TIE-PPR)

Health Science Education Technology Participants -

You will be required to take and pass the TExES - PPR 8-12 exam.

2) Content Area

  • Content area course—depends upon certification area

Trade and Industrial Participants -

Your certification or licensure in your trade serves as proof of proficiency in your work area. You will not have a content exam.

Health Science Education Technology Participants -

You will be required to take and pass the TExES Health Science Technology exam.

3) Attendance at conference

  • Trade and Industrial Participants will attend the Mid-Winter New Teacher Workshop - October (For more information go to www.tiva.org)
  • Health Science Technology Education participants will attend the Summer Professional Development Conference in July. (For more information go to www.texashste.com)

4) Field-Based Experience (Select one)
