LAMAR STATE COLLEGE - ORANGE UPWARD MOBILITY NURSING PROGRAM The Associate of Applied Science Upward Mobility Nursing Program at Lamar State College-Orange (LSC-O) is a competency-based course of study designed to prepare its graduates to take the state board examination (NCLEX-RN) to become registered nurses. The student must maintain a "C" or better in ALL nursing and science courses and an overall 2.0 grade point average to graduate and be eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS To be admitted to LSC-O, each student must:
Refer to the current catalog for additional general admission criteria. To be considered for admission to the Upward Mobility Nursing Program, each student is responsible for submitting ALL of the following to the Nursing Department by the application deadline: 1. an application to the Upward Mobility Nursing Program dated within the last current year; 2. an official transcript from a State Board-approved Vocational/Practical Nursing Program; 3. transcript(s) of all college work completed, including LSC-O and any of the other Lamar campuses. Transcripts should be obtained from the college attended (including those from any of the Lamar campuses) and submitted with the application; 4. license number and expiration date of current LVN/LPN license; 5. evidence that student has mastered basic proficiency in reading, writing and math skills by having met the Texas Success Initiative requirement; 6. proof of current work experience and a minimum of 1,000 hours' clinical experience at the level of a licensed vocational nurse. 7. successful completion of pre-requisites prior to program start. Pre-requisites in progress at the time of the application deadline will not be considered in the rating scale. 8. three reference request forms\:. one reference request form completed by the person who has most recently supervised your nursing practice and two other professional references who can speak to your professional ability. The forms are provided in this packet and should be submitted directly to the Standards Committee (by application deadline); 9. Nurse Entrance Test (NET) profile indicating a composite score of 60 or higher; and 10. Personal Intake Interview by appointment with members of the Standards Committee. 11. A clear Criminal background check from PreCheck, Inc. or a declaratory order from the Board of Nurse Examiners. Please note : Only students offered admission into the upward mobility nursing program are required to complete the criminal background check. APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR EACH JUNE CLASS IS MARCH 1. Only complete applications will be considered. All applicants who have complete application files are notified of acceptance or rejection within six weeks of the application deadline. If you do not receive a letter, please contact Sallie Bertles at 882-3344. Please DO NOT CALL BEFORE SIX WEEKS HAVE PASSED as each phone call delays getting the letters in the mail.
