Mobility Nursing (AAS)
Associate of Applied Science
Purpose
Statement
The Associate of Applied Science Upward Mobility Nursing Program is a
competency-based program for LVN/LPNs that leads to eligibility to take
the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) to become registered
nurses (RNs). Students must maintain "C" or better grades
in ALL nursing and science courses and overall 2.0 grade point averages
(GPAs) to graduate from the Lamar State College-Orange Upward Mobility
Program.

Special
Admission Requirements for Upward Mobility Nursing Program
To be considered
for admission
to the Upward Mobility Nursing Program, each student must sumbit
ALL of the following to the Allied Health Division:
- an
application
to the Upward Mobility Nursing Program dated within the last current
year; [PDF]
[Word]
- copy of current CPR certification
- proof of good mental and
physical health
- an official transcript
from a State Board-approved Vocational/Practical Nursing Program;
- transcript(s) of all college
work completed, including LSC-O and any of the other Lamar campuses.
Transcripts should be obtained from the college attended (including
those from any of the Lamar campuses) and submitted with the application;
- license number and expiration
date of current LVN/LPN license;
- proof of current work experience
and a minimum of 1,000 hours' clinical experience at the level of
a licensed vocational nurse;
- successful completion of
BIOL 2401 and BIOL 2402 Human Anatomy and Physiology, BIOL 2420
Introductory Microbiology, a three-hour computer elective or college
algebra, RNSG 1215 Health Assessment, RNSG 1311 Nursing Pathophysiology
and ENGL 1301 Composition I with minimum grades of "C"
- three
reference request forms: one reference request
form completed by the person who has most recently supervised
your nursing practice and two other professional references
who can speak to your professional ability. The forms are provided
in this packet and should be submitted directly to the Standards
Committee (by application deadline);
- Nurse
Entrance Test (NET) profile indicating a composite score
of 60 or higher; and
- Personal Intake Interview
by appointment with members of the Standards Committee.
- Clear criminal
background check from PreCheck, Inc or Declaratory Order from the
Board of Nurse Examinees. See additional advisement information or

* Eight (8) hours
of nursing credit for basic nursing skills related to medical-surgical
conditions, care of childbearing families and care of children is granted
after passing RNSG 1327.
