Medical Office Professional (AAS)
Associate of Applied Science

Purpose Statement
This program is designed for individuals considering employment with medical offices performing clerical functions. Emphasis is placed on interpersonal communication, familiarization with administrative duties, and skill development in clerical functions such as reception and scheduling, filing, billing, completion of insurance claims, patient relations, medical terminology, and technical procedures.

Special Admissions
The student is responsible for completing the admission procedure for Lamar State College-Orange below:

Admission Requirements-LAMAR STATE COLLEGE-ORANGE
Submit to Lamar State College-Orange

  • application for admission to Lamar State College-Orange;
  • an official high school transcript or GED Certification;
  • original transcripts of all college work completed at other colleges or universities;
  • a copy of driver's license; and
  • a copy of your social security card
  • must pass the TASP test or approved alternative exam or be TASP exempt

Other Information
Students must meet these requirements for graduation with an AAS degree:

  • satisfy all admission requirements;
  • have twenty four (24) of the total semester hours required in residence at Lamar State College-Orange with twelve (12) of the twenty-four (24) in the 2000-level, sophomore classification or from TASP-required core curriculum courses;
  • attain 2.00 GPA (grade points/hours attempted) on all coursework completed at LSC-O;
  • attain no lower than a grade of "C" in each and every class in their major field of study (concentration);
  • have all transfer work evaluated on a credit basis only; transfer work will not be used in determining the GPA (credit will be awarded for a transfer grade of "D"; however, if the LSC-O transferred course is on the degree plan under the major field of study, a grade of "C" must be attained);
  • complete at least fifteen (15) credit hours of general education courses with a minimum of three credit hours in each of the following: natural science/mathematics, humanities/fine arts, and social sciences/behavioral sciences;
  • complete the Associate of Applied Science degree program as prescribed; and
  • have no more than a total of fifteen (15) semester hours of credit by correspondence (maximum of 9) and/or credit by examination combined.

NOTE: If not TASP exempt, all students are required to pass all sections of the TASP test prior to graduation.
