Mobility Nursing (AAS)
Associate of Applied Science
Purpose
Statement
The Associate of Applied Science Upward Mobility Nursing Program is a
competency-based program for LVN/LPNs that leads to eligibility to take
the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) to become a registered
nurse (RN). Students must maintain "C" or better grades in ALL
nursing and science courses and overall 2.0 grade point averages (GPAs)
to graduate from the Lamar State College-Orange Upward Mobility Program.

Admission Requirements at Lamar State College-Orange
To be admitted
to LSC-O, all students must:
- submit applicationd for
admission on the official forms (inclusion of a Social Security
number is required on this form). Applications are
available in the Admission Office or from the nursing secretary;
- request official transcripts
be sent directly from the issuing institution (high school
and /or colleges previously attended); and
- take the prescribed placement
tests and/or have records of test scores sent to the Admissions and
Records Office.
- Refer to the current catalog for additional general admission criteria.
Requirements for Upward Mobility Nursing Program
To be considered
for admission to the Upward Mobility Nursing Program, students are responsible
for submitting ALL of the following to the Nursing
Department by the application deadline:
- an official transcript from a State Board approved Vocational/Practical
Nursing Program;
- transcript(s) of all college
work completed, including LSC-O and any of the other Lamar campuses.
Transcripts should be obtained from
the college attended (including those from any of the Lamar campuses)
and submitted with the application;
- license number and expiration
date of current LVN/LPN license;
- evidence that student has
mastered basic proficiency in reading, writing and math skills
by having met the Texas Success Initiative requirement;
- proof of current work experience
and a minimum of 1,000 hours' clinical experience at the
level of a Licensed Vocational Nurse;
- successful completion of
pre-requisites prior to program start. Pre-requisites
in progress at the time of the application deadline will
not be considered in the rating scale;
- three
reference request forms. One reference request form
completed by the person who has most recently supervised your nursing
practice
and two other professional references who can speak to your
professional ability. The forms are provided in this packet and
should be submitted
directly to the Standards Committee (by application deadline);
- Personal Intake Interview
by appointment with members of the Standards Committee.
APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR EACH JUNE CLASS IS MARCH 1. Only complete applications
will be considered.
All applicants who have complete
application files are notified of acceptance or rejection within six
weeks of the application deadline. If you do not
receive a letter, please contact Sallie Bertles at 882-3344. Please DO
NOT CALL BEFORE SIX WEEKS HAVE PASSED since each phone call delays getting
the letters in the mail.

hours of nursing credit for basic nursing skills related to medical-surgical
conditions, care of childbearing families and care of children is granted
after passing RNSG 1327.
