The Brown Center of Lamar State College - Orange, with its classic simplicity, presents a version of the colonial period which is truly out of the ordinary. This achievement, both in strength and grace, rests comfortably with dignity and poise midst an 88-acre garden, situated in the piney woods of deep East Texas. It is reminiscent of its inspiration, Linden of Natchez, Mississippi. The splendor of The Brown Center depicts a delicate touch of nostalgia befitting the gracious lady and southern gentleman who conceived and built this spacious home.

The Brown Center was established May 31, 1976 when the Brown family home, formerly known as Linden of Pinehurst, with its spacious grounds was conveyed to the Lamar University Foundation, Inc. in memory of the late, beloved Edgar W. Brown, Jr., Orange philanthropist and civic leader. His four sons dedicated the home as a cultural and educational center to benefit the people of Southeast Texas.
