What software do I need to
access a WebCT Course?
All you need is a Web browser
that supports tables, frames, Java, and Javascript. We recommend Netscape
Navigator/Communicator version 4.5 or higher, or Internet Explorer version
5.0 or higher (Netscape is recommended). To check that your browser
is properly configured to handle Java and Javascript, see the Required
Browser Settings Page.
Note: Netscape 6 is not currently
supported for use with WebCT, due to changes in the manner in which
this browser handles certain functions.
I need help, where do I find
it?
Online documentation for
WebCT is available from the WebCT student guide
(www.lsco.lamar.edu/webct/studentguide).
Students may also contact
the LSCO Help Desk (telephone (409)882-3968, or e-mail webct@lsco.edu
for assistance with Web browsers, connection problems, course navigation,
ect.
Is there a WebCT Introduction
class I can take?
Some instructors schedule
an introductory class to prepare students to use WebCT, and a WebCT
orientation is available online (www.lsco.lamar.edu/webct).
I haven't used the Web much,
is there a course I can take to get started?
Check the listings under
the Continuing Education website (www.lsco.lamar.edu/continuinged)
The Whiteboard and/or Chat
programs don't work properly - what's wrong?
The Web browser that you
use (whether Netscape or Internet Explorer) must have Java enabled in
order for the Chat and Whiteboard programs to function properly.
See the Required
Browser Settings Page for details on browser configuration.
How do I logout of a WebCT
session?
There is no explicit logout
feature in WebCT. There is also no time-out function. In order to end
a session you must close your Web browser. If you do not actually exit
from your browser when you are finished working with your WebCT course,
you will remain logged in and your account will still be active. The
next person to use that computer will have full access to your account.
