Students enrolling in college for the first time who fit one of the following categories may apply for admission:

  • Graduates from an accredited high school may be admitted.
  • Those who have earned a General Education Diploma (GED) may be admitted.
  • Those who are at least 18 years of age and who do not have a high school diploma or GED may be admitted upon individual approval of the Vice President for Student Services upon determination of the students' ability to benefit in their chosen fields of study, after achieving minimum scores on the ASSET placement test.
  • Those who are under 18, who do not have a diploma or GED and are still in high school, may be admitted upon the written recommendation of the high school principal or counselor.

Admission to the institution does not guarantee admission to a particular degree or certificate program. Special requirements for various programs of study are described in subsequent sections of the catalog.
Beginning freshmen must submit a completed "Application for Admission" form, an official high school transcript or GED Certificate, and appropriate placement scores.

All beginning students must comply with requirements relating to the Texas Academic Skills Program (TASP).
